Experience Details

Situated on the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, you will find the beautiful Brooklyn Springs sheep and cattle farm.
Be prepared for the scenery which will take your breath away while mustering either sheep or cattle on horseback through the hills. Enjoy a real horse and cattle mustering experience watching the dogs work and help to move the livestock to their new paddocks.

For non-riders there is always a job to do, like fencing, planting trees, take the dogs swimming in the dam, go for bush walks, watch a working dog demo, bird watching or just kick back and enjoy the views. If you bring your kids, they will be busy feeding the goats, the chooks, collecting the eggs and hanging out with the resident pony, Cowboy.

Forgot your smart phone or laptop? No worries! This is where you will get a true break from technology and your “To Do” list not only because of all the great farm and horse riding activities which are waiting for you but because you are completely “off the grid”.

If you’re looking for 5 Star Accommodation or a Michelin Star Restaurant, this is not for you, but looking at 5 trillion stars and enjoying meals cooked over the campfire, this place is yours! You get to sleep in a working shearing shed in luxury swags, each having your own pen (room) or choose to take your Swags anywhere on the 932 acres and sleep under the stars. A well equipped cabin with en-suite bathroom is also available.

An experience like no other where lifelong memories are made! So, it’s time to get ready for an authentic experience enjoying farm life how it used to be….good old fashioned fun and most important of all great horse riding!

What to expect

Day 1 Arrival
Arrive Thursday or Friday late afternoon and get settled in. Meet Brooke, your host and guide. Explore the farm and meet the horses. Enjoy dinner cooked over the open camp fire.

Day 2
Wake to the sound of nature with no hurry to be anywhere, unless of course you want to watch the sunrise from high up on the hill. Following a hearty breakfast, saddle up and engage in moving some cattle. After lunch, enjoy watching a working cattle dog demonstration and in the afternoon join in and help with checking and fixing fences. In the evening, get ready to walk or be driven up the hill. Far up on the ridge, enjoy nibbles and the most beautiful sunset.

Sit by the camp fire & toast marshmallows while your stew is cooking in the camp oven by the fire. Listen to the stories of the “Men and Women from Snowy River Country” or just gaze at the stars before you fall asleep.

Day 3
Following breakfast, pack your saddle bag and lunch and get ready for a day in the saddle. Depending on the season and the farm’s work agenda, you will be participating in cattle work and mustering throughout the whole day. Enjoy a picnic lunch and have a snooze under one of these beautiful gumtrees before you continue your work and ride into the afternoon. Chances are that you will be able to spot some brumbies on the way. Once you return to base, mid-afternoon, take your horse back to the paddock and you will – unfortunately – have to say goodbye. And no, you cannot take your horse with you but you can come again and your horse will be waiting for you!

Day 4
If you are staying for the 2.5 Day’s experience you will go on a longer afternoon ride on Day 3 and then enjoy another one of these great dinners and nights around the campfire. Departure will be the next morning after breakfast.

The Horses

You will be riding various breeds of pleasure horses - or even a brumby - all of them well trained to make your riding experience most enjoyable.
