Experience Details

Once you drive through the gates of Kelvin Falls, you have arrived in great cattle and horse country. Meet the O’Dea family who has been farming in the beautiful Elbow Valley for more than 140 years. Andrew is a fifth generation Southern Downs cattleman and he and his wife Rowena both grew up on farms which has influenced them to open up their beautiful property to visitors.

The property as it is today is 790 hectares (or about 2000 acres) and is made up of soil types which vary from the clay loam at the front paddocks to the sandy granite in the hills lots of open rangeland, typical of New England Granite land types which is ideal for raising cattle and you guessed it right – for horse riding.

There is plenty of wide open pasture inviting you to go for a canter and some hills ready to be climbed on with some spectacular views along the way. The large granite rocks and boulders and the black angus cattle sprinkled across the landscape could easily qualify for an epic western movie. It’s just these good looking large gum trees which will remind you that you are in Australian horseriding heartland.

You will be staying in a beautifully restored country cottage with fully equipped kitchen and dining area, 2 bedrooms (1 Queen plus 1 Single), bathroom and a beautiful patio garden area with your own barbecue.

Fully self-contained, the cottage has everything you need to make you feel like you are owning the farm. You can bring and cook your own country food or have a barbecue overlooking the beautiful pastures from your own cottage. For your country breakfast you will be able to feast on Rowena’s great breakfast basket, which is a real treat and included in your rate.

Should you feel like going out, there is some great pub food available within easy driving distance.

Kelvin Falls is an ideal place to relax and just enjoy country life, the horses, the cattle and beautiful scenery which will all invite you to “disconnect” from your daily life, reconnect with nature, create new life experiences and memories that will last a lifetime!
