If you’ve ever dreamed of droving a herd of cattle on horseback here is your chance to participate in a heritage cattle drive in one of the most beautiful regions of Victoria!
Together with her family, Ellen Forge carries on the tradition of bringing guests to the Beautiful King Valley Area giving you the opportunity to experience a real Australian Heritage Cattle Drive in one of the most beautiful areas of Australia. On this 7 days droving trip you will be actively engaged in the process of bringing over 500 head of cattle from the Victorian High Country down the picturesque King Valley to the Forge Farm.

This is the absolute perfect Victorian High Country experience for you and your horse and there is no better way to spend a week in the saddle than to be droving cattle through the mountains, valleys and bush country.

Apart from participating in the droving trip, you will also get some true insight into the cattleman’s country life and the magnificent scenery.

This is the perfect horseback adventure and it comes with great scenery, hearty food and the opportunity to ride with the Forge’s family, sharing their passion!

What to expect

Day 1 Afternoon
Arrive in the afternoon before the cattle drive to up with Ellen, discuss the program and meet your horse. Spend the night in a hotel nearby.

Day 2 – 7
Usually days on the cattle drive start early and you spend 5 – 6 hours in the saddle. Spend evenings around the campfire, enjoying good country food and listening to the stories of the country cattlemen and women who have lived and worked on this land for generations before you retire to your swag (Australian for sleeping bag) falling asleep gazing at the stars.

Day 8
You will arrive back at the farm in the King Valley where you started out from in the early afternoon.

The Horses

Ellen and her family have been training horses all of their lives and you will be matched with a trusted and sure footed Australian Stockhorse or Quarter Horse. All horses are experienced “cattle workers” and well prepared to partner with you during this exciting experience.

Your Guide

Details

Included:

  • A great horse, tack, and support from experienced cattlemen and hosts during your stay
  • Camping facilities, camping gear, swag and pillow for your trip
  • Three meals per day during the cattle drive

Transfer:
Guests need to organise their own transfer from Melbourne to the King Valley from where the cattle drive will start.

Not included:

  • Domestic or international flights from and to the destination
  • Overnight accommodation for the night prior to the start of the cattle drive. H&C Australia will be able to assist with reservations in a nearby hotel.
  • Beer, wine, BYO alcohol which will be transported together with your luggage in a support vehicle.
