Experience Details

The greatest pleasure lies in the anticipation but on your drive to Wallaby Creek, the road trip to get there will reward you with such spectacular scenery, you will want to stop and stop and just take another photo of that great cattle and riding country. And you know you are hooked before you even get there when you stop at the local real estate office and check on cattle properties for sale. That’s what you will go through except there is nor realtor close by. This is really remote – in a good way – but still easily accessible.

You will drive into a valley and cross a creek before you arrive at Wallaby Creek a beautiful 500 acre working grazing property, surrounded by national park and other grazing properties which will let you ride your heart out.

You will be staying in a two-bedroom one bathroom cottage (one queen room and 1 queen with a single room) up on the hill, set privately in the grazing pastures of the farm. The cottage is fully self-contained with a full kitchen, with gas stove and fridge, gas hot water, open plan dining and a comfortable lounge in front of the wood fire heater. You are expected to bring your own food, beer, wine etc.

You will love the view from the veranda over the pastures and the valley.

What to expect

This is one of our signature experiences which means that you can put your own stamp on your stay. For your inspiration, these are some experiences Wallaby Creek has in store for you.

Day 1 Arrival

Arrive after 2 pm, settle in and just enjoy the view. Period.

Later in the afternoon, venture down to the homestead and meet your hosts, the whole family and all the animals.

Day 2

There is always some cattle work that needs to be done at Wallaby Creek. Meet your horse, saddle up and join the work. Alternatively, help to feed the animals or milking the cow and the next day have some of that homemade yoghurt for breakfast! So now you know why it tasted so great this morning for breakfast – nothing like the stuff you buy in the supermarket.

In the afternoon, there is usually something exciting to participate in and learn. Blacksmithing – deeply satisfying to create something special with a hammer. Or, learn from Ben all about cattle dogs and understand how they are trained to deliver an amazing performance out in the paddock working cattle.

Day 3

After one of these great country breakfasts, guided by Ben a great full day riding adventure will be waiting for you. Your horse will carry you up some pretty steep hills and once you arrive at the top, you will have the most spectacular view across some great grazing country. Lunch will be served at a farm nearby before you will ride back to the farm in the afternoon.

If you are not too tired, join the action and don’t be shy to get involved in life on the farm. There are calves to feed (the most beautiful calves I have ever seen – as a Swiss).

Day 4

Here is your chance to take in a great breakfast ride or venture into the national park on horseback.

In the afternoon, don’t miss a visit to Mary Falls. On your way back take an easy stroll through World Heritage rainforest of Tooloom National Park, with massive trees you have never seen before. From here it’s just a short, easy walk to magnificent scenic views across World Heritage Tooloom Scrub and out to Great Dividing Range from Tooloom lookout.

In the evening, following one of these great barbies (Australian for barbecue), sit around the campfire with a beer or a glass of good wine and have a bit of a yarn.

Day 5: Departure

Enjoy another one of these hearty breakfasts before it’s time to say goodbye to your hosts, your horse and some of the other animals. I can guarantee you, you want to come back.

The Horses

You will be riding well-bred and trained stockhorses, all of them familiar with the terrain and working cattle for a most enjoyable ride. For families and visiting children there is a pony available for children.
